Custom Sign Manufacturing Process
A detailed look at how Sunlite Signs transforms your specifications into finished, UL-listed signage. German-engineered processes with quality controls at every stage.
Inside Our Custom Sign Manufacturing Process
Custom sign manufacturing at Sunlite Signs follows a structured production workflow developed around German engineering principles: precision at every step, documentation that ensures repeatability, and quality controls that catch issues before they become problems. Understanding our process helps you set accurate expectations with your clients and explains why Sunlite-manufactured signs consistently meet specifications.
Production begins after you approve the shop drawings prepared by our engineering team. Your project enters the production queue and moves through a sequential workflow: material preparation, fabrication, electrical assembly, finishing, and final quality inspection. Each stage has defined quality checkpoints where our production team verifies that work matches the approved drawings before the sign advances to the next stage.
This staged approach prevents the cascading errors that occur when issues are not caught early. A dimensional error caught at material preparation is a minor correction; the same error caught at finishing is a costly rework. Our checkpoint system ensures accuracy at every stage, which is why our rework rate is well below industry averages and our 3-week production timeline is reliable.
Production Stages in Detail
Each stage of our manufacturing process uses commercial-grade equipment operated by trained technicians:
- Material preparation: CNC routers and plasma cutters process aluminum, steel, and acrylic to precise dimensions. Sheet metal is formed on CNC brake presses with programmed bend sequences for repeatable accuracy.
- Fabrication: Components are welded using MIG and TIG processes in jig-controlled setups that maintain alignment. Mechanical fastening is used where appropriate for field serviceability.
- Electrical assembly: LED modules, power supplies, and wiring are installed per the electrical engineering package. Every circuit is tested before the sign moves to finishing.
- Finishing: Automotive-grade paints and powder coats are applied in our controlled spray environment. Vinyl graphics are applied using wet-application methods for bubble-free results.
- Quality inspection: Final dimensional check against shop drawings, illumination test, UL compliance verification, and visual inspection for finish quality.
Signs that pass final inspection are crated for shipping with protection designed for the specific sign type and transit method. Installation documentation, UL labels, and warranty information are included with every shipment.
