Flush mount channel letters attach individually to the building surface using threaded studs and spacers, eliminating the visible raceway that characterizes most commercial channel letter installations. The result is a clean, architectural appearance where each letter appears to float on the wall surface. This mounting method is strongly preferred by architects, upscale retailers, and building owners who prioritize visual refinement.
Sunlite Signs fabricates flush mount letters with threaded aluminum studs welded to the letter back. Each stud aligns with a drilled hole in the building fascia, and the letter is secured with nuts from behind the wall (when accessible) or with toggle-type fasteners in hollow walls. A full-scale paper template ships with every order, showing exact stud locations for precise hole drilling.
Electrical connections for flush mount installations run behind the wall surface or through a concealed wireway. We provide detailed wiring diagrams showing recommended wire routing, junction box placement, and power supply location. All assemblies are UL 48 listed and manufactured with our standard German-engineered fabrication process.
Installation Requirements & Considerations
Flush mount installations require more planning than raceway-mounted alternatives. Key considerations include:
- Wall Access: Ideal installations have access behind the wall for fastening nuts and routing wires. If rear access is unavailable, toggle bolts or expanding anchors can be used, though this increases installation time
- Wire Routing: Low-voltage wires must be routed from each letter to a central power supply location. This typically requires core drilling or conduit runs behind the fascia. Plan wire paths before letter placement
- Wall Material: Flush mounting works on most surfaces — concrete, CMU, steel stud with substrate, wood frame, and ACM panels. We specify appropriate fasteners for each wall type
- Power Supply Location: Remote power supplies are typically mounted inside the building or in an accessible location above the ceiling. We specify maximum wire run distances based on letter count and total power draw
Despite the additional installation complexity, flush mount letters command a premium price point from end users due to their superior aesthetics.
