Wholesale Painted Flat Cut Letters Painted Flat Cut Letters

Exact brand color matching on precision-cut dimensional letters. Automotive-grade polyurethane finishes that hold up to weather, UV exposure, and the test of time.

Precision Color Matching for Brand-Critical Projects

When a client's brand guidelines specify an exact color, painted flat cut letters are the way to deliver it. Unlike vinyl wraps or powder coat — which offer limited color-match precision — our automotive-grade polyurethane paint system achieves exact PMS, RAL, and custom color matches with batch-to-batch consistency that your brand-conscious clients demand.

Sunlite Signs uses a spectrophotometer-based color matching process that measures color in LAB color space, the same system used by major automotive and architectural coatings manufacturers. This eliminates the subjectivity of visual matching and ensures that the letters you install today will match letters you order six months from now for the same client.

Our paint booth environment is temperature and humidity controlled, which is essential for consistent color and finish quality. Letters are painted in a multi-stage process: zinc chromate primer for adhesion and corrosion resistance, base color coat applied in multiple light passes for uniform coverage, and a UV-stable clear coat for long-term finish protection. The result is a finish that resists fading, chalking, and peeling for a decade or more in exterior applications.

Substrate & Finish Specifications

Painted flat cut letters are available on the following substrates:

  • Aluminum (Standard): 6061-T6 alloy, CNC-routed with clean edges. The most popular substrate for painted letters due to its light weight and excellent paint adhesion.
  • Steel: Available in 16-gauge or 14-gauge mild steel for projects where the client wants maximum rigidity or a heavier feel.
  • Stainless Steel: For projects that require both a custom color and the corrosion resistance of stainless. Requires specialized primer for adhesion.

Finish options extend beyond solid colors to include:

  • Metallic Colors: Automotive metallic paints with fine or coarse metallic flake for a shimmering appearance
  • Matte, Satin, and Gloss: Full range of sheen levels from dead-flat matte to high-gloss mirror finish
  • Texture Finishes: Wrinkle, hammered, and sand textures applied through specialized spray techniques
  • Multi-Color: Two-tone or multi-color paint schemes with masked color breaks for complex brand applications

Every painted letter order can include a sprayed color sample chip for client approval before production begins. For color-critical national brand rollouts, we maintain paint formulas in our database for consistent matching across future orders.

Durability & Long-Term Performance

The longevity of painted flat cut letters depends entirely on the paint system. At Sunlite Signs, we use professional automotive-grade materials — not sign-industry shortcuts — because our trade partners need a finish that performs for years without callbacks or warranty claims.

Our multi-layer paint system delivers these performance characteristics:

  • Adhesion: Cross-hatch adhesion testing per ASTM D3359 on every production batch. Our chromate primer system achieves 5B (highest) adhesion ratings on aluminum substrates.
  • UV Resistance: ASTM G154 accelerated weathering tests demonstrate color retention exceeding 10 years of Florida exposure equivalent. The clear coat absorbs UV radiation before it reaches the color coat.
  • Chemical Resistance: The cured polyurethane finish resists common cleaning chemicals, bird droppings, tree sap, and urban pollution without staining or etching.
  • Impact Resistance: Flexible polyurethane formulation resists chipping from minor impacts during installation and in-service contact.

For projects in extreme UV environments (desert Southwest, high-altitude locations), we offer a PVDF (Kynar) topcoat upgrade that provides even greater long-term color stability. This coating is the same system used on architectural curtain wall panels that are warranted for 20+ years of exterior exposure.
